Great Product - Instructions can be confusing for beginners

This is a great product if you know how to use it and what it can be used for. Many people have given negative reviews because: 1. Mixing 1:1 creates a watery mass that is too difficult to work with. - I personally think that a 1:1 ratio of water to filler is too aggressive as a starting point. You only want to add enough water to bypass it. Ultimately, it should look/feel like dirt. And I personally prefer it a little drier (it gives you less time to spread it before it dries, but it's easier for me to work with). Do not try to mix/use the whole bottle at once. If you've never used it, start with a ball and add some water. If you use too much water, add a little more filler until you get the right consistency. It's easier to add water than waiting for the mixture to dry if you've added too much. - Don't use a rag to smudge it. It's easier to spread and apply enough pressure to squeeze the filler into the fibers if you use a plastic squeegee (a credit card works too). Personally, I think this way is easier to work with if your sequence is also a bit different. 2. It does not form an even surface / crumbles, breaks off or weathers. - This is not wooden *putty*. This is wood spatula. Those are two different things. Putty is more like plasticine and was designed to shape wood. Wood putty is much more viscous than putty; it should fit in/between the grain. If you're trying to fill a hole, you need to look for putty. The first review here with photos of the refurbished chair is amazing. If your furniture is so damaged, epoxy grouting is the best choice. Hope these tips help. If anyone needs more information on how to use water- or oil-based fillers and/or how to combine them with different types of finishes, I highly recommend Understanding Wood Finishes: How to Choose and Apply the Right Finish by Bob Flexner; This book is the be-all and end-all of accomplishment.
