Sufficient but could be better

Bought two of these as my morning schedule changed and I needed to take the boys out early in the morning. We divide the time between forest and beach. So I wanted something that could withstand a small amount of water. They are very heavy and the plastic also gives the impression of cheap heavy plastic (very poor yield). This leads to several problems. First, the clasps don't work well. Some items need to be repeated before I right click. They can also be a little harder to open when it's cold and the guys are still moving. Admittedly I'm just trying to use my index and thumb but their regular Ruffwear collars are no problem and the plastic looks a lot nicer (fits well, feels sturdy). The hardness also affects the on/off switch. It's not easy to press. It's a plastic button under a piece of collar material. It has poor compliance and tactile sensitivity. After all, it's the water resistance. This appears to have happened in several ways: First, the battery actually appears to be "waterproof" with glue. I would be very surprised if they had some sort of rubber barrier. Another downside is their rubber tread for strength. They use their own barrel connector instead of USB. It is assumed that water will not penetrate through a long piece of rubber/plastic material that passes through. It is attached to the battery with a screw. The simple act of running at my rabid dogs makes it come out. So it's practically useless. Time will tell how it will last. I suspect that the plastic will eventually break because it is so brittle. On the plus side, battery life seems pretty reasonable. Our picnics usually last between 1 and 1.5 hours and I usually charge every 6 or 7 picnics. Too bad there is no battery indicator.
