Review on Sony DVP-NS715P DVD Player with Progressive-Scan Technology by Hunter Siemon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty good overall

I was looking for a decent DVD player to play my MP3 files. It took me 3 players to come up with this model. Too many players say "MP3 compatible" but don't support all MP3s (jump, loud clicks, etc.). Sony was the first to handle ALL my MP3s with no problems. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it's quite a shame that Sony hasn't added a shuffle feature for MP3 discs. They made it available on regular CDs, so what's up? Oh yes, the DVD player itself works perfectly. There are several settings you can use to adjust the sound if you don't have a 5.1 receiver (like mine). No picture or playback issues yet as I bought it back in December 2002. For you MP3 lovers (like me), here are some tips to help with playback and other things. These tools are available for FREE on the internet. Use google to find them. CDEx - want to create your own MP3s from your CD collection? This FREE ripper has no limits, has many personalized settings and one of the best encoders (LAME) for MP3. You can get great sounding MP3s with this tool. MP3Gain - Tired of loud and then quiet MP3s? This tool helps to balance the volume of selected tracks without turning the volume knob. MP3Trim - helps trim excess space at the end of tracks and remove unnecessary bits in MP3. Ever had one that couldn't play or start part of the song? This tool will solve these problems. After getting the MP3Trim, ALL the MP3s played in my boombox and my Sony DVD player. The only limitation of this software is that the MP3 song limit is 7 minutes. MP3DirectCut - allows you to split MP3 files (especially those albums that are one long MP3 file), trim them and do many other things. Your MP3 experience will be smoother and more enjoyable.
