I have been using Schlage F59x locks for a number of years. They are of good quality and have proven to be reliable. Probably the worst feature of these locks is that they don't have a low battery indicator. Twice I was not allowed in the house because of dead batteries. If I wasn't a skilled thief and couldn't pick the lock, I would have had to break the window to get in, as nobody was servicing my territory. That's the main reason I spent $200 on this version of z-wave. First, the quality and material is very similar to the non-Z-Wave version. The mechanical installation is identical. If you are using a non-Z-Wave version of the lock, it will take 5-10 minutes to install. If you're coming from a typical non-electronic lock, don't worry. The installation is very easy. The kit includes all the necessary parts and instructions. This version of the Z-Wave runs on 4 AA batteries (alkaline batteries included). I use this with Ring Alarm. Pairing is easy. Simply enter the 6-digit programming code, press the "beat" button, then the number zero. Just follow the instructions in the Ring app. It took Ring about a minute to find the lock. No problem. What does the Ring App do for this lock? You can lock or unlock, monitor entry activity, and there's a very useful battery indicator (!). You can set them up so that unlocking the lock with a combination code also disables the alarm. What can't you do with the Ring app? Input combinations cannot be programmed or reprogrammed. And access to the lock from the application is hidden in several layers. You must place it on the main page. In general, I like the castle very much. It is high quality and reliable. Works great with the ring. I really wish I could program the login code from the Ring app and I want the Ring app to be able to access the lock from the home screen. I haven't had a freeze long enough to judge the battery life at the moment, but I plan to upgrade in the future. Tip, the lock does come with a key though. Hide it in an accessible place. If the battery dies during a long trip or whatever, you're locked out!
