Tidradio TH-H5 GMRS Radio Review. FCC ID: 2AWL3TD-H5 Part 95E certified. NOTE: THIS RADIO REQUIRES FCC GMRS LICENSE TO OPERATE! THIS DOES NOT APPLY WITHOUT AN FRS RADIO LICENSE. Upon opening the box I found a quick start guide along with an instruction manual. The quick start guide helped me get started. The only fault was that this radio is not compatible with Chirp. The kit includes two of the following: USB charger and cable. Speaker microphones, belt clips, carrying straps and of course two walkie-talkies. *Four* batteries are included in total. A license obligation is printed on the first pages of the operating instructions. The instructions are well written and easy to understand. The factory programming software is easy to use and not confusing at all. Channels are labeled by default, but you can label them with a letter of your choice. The radios come with a USB charging cable, not a desktop charger. The antenna is not removable. The GMRS regulations allow the use of external antennas. However, these radios have access to 7 low-power FRS frequencies, so the antennas are permanently installed to comply with FCC rules. The output power of the radios is just under 500 mW at low frequencies and 4.91 W at high frequencies. This corresponds to the FCC grant. I consider them *true* 5 watt radios. This is rarely seen in the GMRS market. Radio receivers are comfortable to hold. The battery life is more than 8 hours, in operation they are excellent. The sound quality during reception and transmission is excellent. Outdoor range is about a mile and a half in suburban conditions at high power. Unfortunately, there are no open repeaters in my area. The ranges I got were better than I expected. Low power gave the same range. I expected this as UHF range depends more on antenna quality and environment than performance. Overall impression: solid feel, effective range, excellent sound quality. All this makes the radio a five star hotel. I really tried to find ways to improve the design; But I could not. Top notch radio!
