This phone holder rests on the phone's downward weight to then raise the side arms that hold the phone. This is a creative design that offers a more precise and firm grip when hands wrap lightly around the front of the phone. Haven't tested it on my car yet but I think it will hold up well. The only downside is that the fastener you use to insert it into the vent seems a little clunky/cumbersome. Let's hope this part doesn't feel so big once it's in the vent.
