Review on Fluke Networks IntelliTone Toner MT 8200 60 KIT by Peter Sullivan

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I have a whistle? EDIT

The product looks good and seems to work for everyone else, but I seem to be having extremely poor performance with digital toner. The video shows that you can spot the cable simply by walking past the room it's coming from. From Cat. 5 I can receive a signal about 30 cm from the cable, but with Cat. 6 I have to TOUCH the wire. This is not the analog toner I am talking about, this feature works well. However, it advertises a digital toner capable of picking up a signal from at least a few feet away. My mileage is significantly lower. Makes most functions of this device unusable. I will probably try to return this for another and if the replacement does the same I will definitely come back for a refund. I have no experience with other toners, so I can't comment on comparisons. If I use it wrong please let me know.1. Connect the toner to the Cat6 keystone connector with the cable provided.2. Turn both the toner and the probe to the image of the probe with outgoing radio waves (large waves on the probe)3. Walk with the probe at maximum volume. Nothing until I touch a real wire. This is one cable in a bundle of about 30 category 6 cables. I will change this review if the replacement works better. ----EDIT ---- Received a replacement from Amazon overnight and am happy to report that the replacement works much better. The probe now picks up a digital signal from a few meters away. Everything else works great. So the lesson is this: if your probe is lacking in performance, do yourself a favor and trade it in!
