I was considering buying this for its small size or 35mm 1.8g for my D810. As for the other premium lens, I have the 24mm 1.4; 50mm 1.4; 85mm 1.4; 105mm 2.8VR; and 3 Trinity lens. I wasn't expecting much from this used $250 lens. Online reviews said these new digital cameras could outperform this lens in sharpness. After using this lens for about 2 months I noticed that it's a bit softer at 100% crop than my other premium lens, but it's still very acceptable. It's softer in version 2.0 if that matters to you. The lens focuses as quickly as any of my other lenses. In general, for me it is protection. I love the small size. My 11 year old daughter loves taking photos with her compact iPod and Nikon cameras. My D810 with a 24-70mm lens was too heavy and bulky for her. However, when she saw this lens on my D810, she tried it and fell in love! She took it outside and took some very nice pictures of our dog playing. The focal length is perfect, not too far like my 24mm f.14 and not too close like my 50mm f1.4. I bought this primarily as I needed to travel light and put up with the fact that it might not be that sharp. like my other "premium" lens, but after trying it out for the past few hours and looking at the pixels on my Mac, I don't feel like I'll sacrifice sharpness with this lens. At least that's my opinion as a "non-professional" photographer.
