Good things come in small packages

I bought this lens to use with the Nikon D 850 and am very happy with it. I was looking for a compact lens for use mainly in urban areas but also in landscapes. Just used it in Puerto Vallarta and was very impressed. I'm glad I bought it. The price was right.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Crumpled

Very good but not great

The best thing about this lens is its price. You can get a 35mm prime lens for less than $200. Images at f/2 are good, but they get better at f/4 and work well at f/5.6. As expected, it's compact and great for outdoor shooting. If you like the 35mm focal length and don't want to spend a lot of money, it's worth it.

Pros
  • Affordability
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

The lens was sent in a bubble envelope, the box inside was torn.

The box with the lens was sent in a pimply envelope and one of the corners was broken off. I couldn't believe the camera lens came with such basic protection. Also, the lens wasn't accurate in focusing and was very, very soft from 2.0 to 5.6. I've decided I ordered the wrong product to connect to my camera and I'm returning it (and I REALLY wanted to at least like it).

Pros
  • So far everything looks like this
Cons
  • No performance

A new favorite camera lens

This is my first D-series lens but it won't be my last. My other primes are G with internal focus, instant manual controls, and bigger/heavier. There's something organic about this lens and how it feels on my D810. It reminds me of a movie with my first DSLR. The external focus sound is soothing in a way that new lenses can't be. It's also pretty sharp at anything below 2.8. This will definitely make my 50mm 1.4G spend more time in a spare bag to keep at home.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • I'm worried

What does a PRO lens do in this price range?

See that little lens? I've tested and verified it and got the same result on very good pro posts: the thing is as sharp as the Zeiss Distagon 35mm. I would argue that from an artist's perspective (very few people) Zeiss has a slight advantage in micro-contrast. Nikon was noticeably better in chromatic aberration (!). The normal price of this lens should be closer to $1,000 given its sharpness, size, micro-contrast and color accuracy.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • No insurance

Love the small size

I was considering buying this for its small size or 35mm 1.8g for my D810. As for the other premium lens, I have the 24mm 1.4; 50mm 1.4; 85mm 1.4; 105mm 2.8VR; and 3 Trinity lens. I wasn't expecting much from this used $250 lens. Online reviews said these new digital cameras could outperform this lens in sharpness. After using this lens for about 2 months I noticed that it's a bit softer at 100% crop than my other premium lens, but it's still very acceptable. It's softer in version 2.0 if thatโ€ฆ

Nice street and general purpose lens for full fame DSLRs

This is an older lens model but is excellent value for money. I like using it on my D700. Its 35mm focal length and f/2 aperture make it a good and versatile outdoor lens. So far I find it generally sharp and I like the bokeh it creates. However, this lens is not for everyone. If you have a camera with a DX sensor (cropped), you should probably get a 35mm f/1.8 AF-S DX lens. This lens is designed for smaller digital sensors and has a slightly larger aperture. It's a great lens for people withโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • too dull
