I make 1/4 cups of it in pantyhose and put it in HOB filters. You'll have to experiment to see how much you need in your aquarium. But my 29 gallon aquarium with two fancy goldfish is kept at 5ppm nitrate with 1/2 cup per week. He fills up on large quantities of cheap table salt. Be sure to follow the directions exactly - not just the salt concentration, but the absolute amount of salt. but reloading is painless and works almost indefinitely. Highly recommended. I don't know why it isn't used everywhere, especially in aquariums where high nitrate levels are common (e.g. goldfish).
