Review on πŸ”Œ Remote Control Outlet Socket by Carlos Deuschle

100% complete garbage. Trouble setting up, detaching itself from Alexa for no reason.

To set this up you need to download the socket app, register and then connect to Alexa. I don't think the process was smooth and it took me a few minutes to figure it out and I'm quite comfortable with the technology. If I gave it to someone like my parents who aren't tech savvy, I don't think they would be able to adapt it. I've had it for about a week and after a bit of a frustrating setup I ran into another problem. I asked Alexa to turn on the lights today (as I set up). This has been working all week, but only now is Alexa confused and not working with voice activation at the moment. The product appears to have split from the Alexa app. Try to fix this by relinking the account. No problem, right? Well it won't let me in to link it. First, the login page that appears when you connect through the app is poorly coded. You can't see what fields you're entering. I found a way to flip it out and see what's going on (still bad, it was still zoomed in too much, you can't zoom out to see it). You enter your phone number as login and when you send it the country code keeps changing to Bermuda (I guess it doesn't matter? I'm from the US so +1 still doesn't work). It's a complete mess.

Pros
  • Socket switch
Cons
  • No power
