You say switch the key to position II (dashboard light on and beep). The trick is that when they say "off" they mean position I (meaning 1 click after inserting the key into the lock). This unlocks the steering column but the light doesn't come on) You shift from position II to position I (not full) and back to position II. For my 1999 Accord these are the steps (your may be different!): Climb into the car and close all the doors. Repeat the following steps ABC THREE times (use the same remote control for this step each time, you can use a non-programmed remote control) A. Turn on the ignition (II) (the indicator on the dashboard will light up) - Wait 1 2. B. Press the lock button on the remote you are programming (hold for 1 second) C. Switch the ignition OFF (I) - wait 1 second. (total 4 times) Turn the ignition ON. Press the LOCK button again with the same remote control. During this time the door locks will be cycled to confirm that the vehicle has entered programming mode. Turn off the ignition (I). Remove the key, get out of the car and lock it manually. Now use the programmed remote control to unlock. Check the trunk by pressing the trunk button and waiting for it to open.
