Review on πŸ’» Gigabyte G27Q-SA 2560X1440P Monitor with FreeSync, HDR, and Flicker-Free Technology by Ricardo Wilson

Tired of dead pixels

My first Gigabyte G27Q had 8 cracked subpixels closer to the center of the screen, which manifested itself in the first few hours of use - in the attached image the cross is my mouse cursor. It was pretty disappointing to have dead pixels but I was able to get the monitor replaced for free. There are no dead pixels on my new monitor (yet), but there is a tiny bit of shiny material (probably glue) sticking out of the top right corner. It doesn't obscure the actual screen but is distracting when the light is at the right angle behind me. In my opinion, the transition from 1080p to 1440p is more important than 60Hz to 144Hz, but the increased frame rate is clearly nice. I had no issues with either of these aspects of the monitor. Color wise, I had to make some adjustments to my monitor settings to get a subjectively "good" picture - mostly this involved turning off the gamma setting and changing the color. little temperature. Once installed, this display definitely looks better than the 1080p monitor it replaces. I haven't been able to figure out how to 'enable' HDR on this monitor, but I'm pretty sure it's not true HDR, so I don't care. The screen gets dirty very easily. I would advise against touching the screen with your bare hands as you leave marks that are difficult to erase. On my first monitor the control knob/button was nice and tactile, but on my second it's pretty dull. The included Displayport and HDMI cables are good. In addition, there may not be any built-in speakers. You are terrible.
