Review on πŸ”Œ GE Composite Audio/Video Cable, 6 ft. RCA Style Plugs 3-Male to 3-Male: Low Loss Connection for TV, VCR, DVD, Satellite, and Home Theater Receivers (23216) by Matthew Maggot

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works simply: RCA cable

Use with mac.1. Connect to a Mac on one end and a VCR2 on the other. Start Quicktime3. Select File/New Video Recording4. Here's the tricky part: see the little "v" next to the record button? There you select this input device. Do this for both audio and video5. Quick Time has its own volume control. Disabled by default. Turn it on when you want to hear audio.6. Press the play button on the VCR7. Press the record button.8. It doesn't stop automatically. OK, pay attention. The quality seems to match what I see on TV when I play the VCR. VHS has lousy resolution, don't judge by bad tapes. The second entry gave me slightly different results. Running the tape to the end and rewinding it can make a difference. Works well. Easy to set up. No additional software required (Quicktime comes preinstalled on all Macs). The only downside is that it plays uncompressed videos. HUGE (20GB per hour). You need so much free disk space. I think you can save as MP4 but it records in original size first. UPDATE: On the same "v" next to the record button you can also choose the quality. Choose the lower one, which still has a higher resolution than VHS, then the dimensions are closer to 1GB/hr. Much better and shouldn't lose image quality!
