Review on πŸ₯’ Efficient Farberware Handheld Mandoline Slicer for Fruits and Vegetables, Green by Kim Aguilar

Not my favorite kitchen tool

I love the idea of putting some veggies in a container and chopping them all up to mix everything together. This can save hand wear. I love the idea of a handheld chopper as I don't have to be near an outlet all the time or switch between different devices. I also thought of the possible use in the classroom when we can cook food again. With projects like this, you certainly don't always have the opportunity to be close to an outlet. The packaging states that the blades are very sharp. And they are not joking! My issue is that this is meant to be hand washed and you have to be very careful when cleaning the blades this way. Also, you need to put the blades in place before adding anything to grind, otherwise you won't be able to put the blade on its little stand in the bowl. First you need to deploy a larger blade. And in all honesty, the thing doesn't seem to like it when you have to cut out big chunks. When I first tried this, I chopped up the broccoli and onion, then added a few cherry tomatoes to mix into the eggs. This worked really well, but I only had a few pieces of each and they were small or medium when I put them in. It was almost pointless to use it for shredding as I had already cut out the pieces. The second time I used it I was just making broccoli and onions and had to turn and turn and turn the whole time. Even back then, a few pieces of broccoli simply refused to be cut. So it seems you can only fill the bowl halfway if you want it to cut properly. And you have to remember to move forward and backward, not just turn in the same direction. It seems to help a little more. I tried the whisk attachment when boiling eggs. It worked much better than hacking. But I don't often beat eggs and can do the same with a whisk or fork and bowl. The bowl itself isn't that big either. So unless you're slicing your food into a portion or just whipping up one ingredient to put in a large bowl, I'm not sure what else you're going to use it for. It's not like you can mix up the whole cake mix or anything. And I definitely don't want to have kids near the cutting area. These blades made me nervous even as an adult. While some people might find a use for them, I don't find them all that useful in my kitchen and I'd be better off using a different type of chopper or a small blender. However, I'll play around with it a bit more and see if I can find a better use for it.

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
