Yes, the vacuum cleaner got water, but only once. The bottom line is to use very little cleaning liquid (I spray on the go) and set the vacuum motor to minimum suction (the motor must be running to use the product). Once water got in I played with the power settings to see if a higher motor speed would make the mop spin faster, but all it did was increase the suction that took the excess water I had poured onto the floor , licked up. . tl;dr, dampen and wring pads, spray cleaning solution sparingly one area at a time, vacuum minimally.
