This filter is quiet and the 3 flow settings are great for oxygenation and little action for the fish in all parts of the tank. I have four 4-6 inch Oscars and two plecostomuses in a 55 gallon tank and they've gotten a lot livelier since we got this filter. I don't have room in the back of my tank, it's almost flush with the wall, for traditional filters, and two of my lids have pre-punched holes for the holes, but since I have this filter, they aren't needed. I only used a few plants to cover the filter in the tank and overall my tank looks great and my fish love it. I would definitely recommend purchasing this product if you don't want or can't install a traditional filter at the edge of your aquarium.
