I haven't tested the writability of this device as I have no intention of ever using it for that, so I can't confirm how it would perform in this specific case . As an easy to install external drive, I will rarely use it, mainly to install some software that I still have on the CD, it's very convenient. Hard drive installation did not become an event. I plugged it in and the operating system (windows 10) booted it up as an available DVD drive. It's sturdy, fairly quiet, and reads every CD I put in. The tray is a single disc plug-in design. It can read smaller 3 inch discs. All in all a nice package.
