Review on πŸ“€ Panasonic DMR-EZ47V 1080p Up-Converting DVD-Recorder/VCR Combo with Built-In Tuner (2005 Model), Black by Richard Lamptey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

good performance but some limitations

I chose this model because it seemed to be the best ATSC/DVD-R VCR available in October 2007. Edge of the Philadelphia Lookout. I needed a new VCR and wanted to make sure I had an ATSC tuner because our bedroom TV (bought last year before I knew the end was so near) didn't support it and I don't update it often. (The excellent deck it replaced was purchased in 1988.) Overall I'm happy with it, but look forward to having the manual handy so I can get the most out of it. as well as our other options. Some channels (both analogue and digital) are better than others. But then apparently can't get time out of thin air, which five other systems on the same antenna have no problem with. The picture quality of the pre-recorded VHS and DVD is very good. (and I found that it will read my camera's memory card and display the images on the TV) There are a few design decisions that bothered me. The first three don't really matter and I just adjusted my expectations: you can't record digital channels on VHS. (even if they aren't HD) - You can't record to both decks at the same time - Widescreen format can only be recorded to DVD-RAM, not +R/-R discs The next few really annoy me, but can't help anyone Meaning More: - Gone are the days when you had to press the TIMER button to put the device to sleep until it starts recording on a schedule. The device must be switched off to start the timer recording. Oh, and it turns itself off after a few hours of non-use. I schedule my favorite shows to be recorded weekly since I watch almost everything when it suits me. When I stopped playing while falling asleep last night, the machine was kind enough to start the next recording right there. And when I watched the DVD, he didn't bother to start a new recording. - It resets the counter to zero when rewinding to the beginning of the tape. I have many tapes with multiple shows (and none of them are captioned). I put in a cassette and rewind it. Oh I've seen the beginning, rewind where it was and look from there. Where was I? the counter can no longer tell me that. - You cannot play VHS through the HDMI connection while burning a DVD. It was my brilliant idea of how to watch yesterday's show, writing it down today. This only works if you choose an older port type, which is why I end up crawling behind the TV to disable something else to do this. Would I buy it again? Yes to disable something else to do this. Would I buy it again? Yes to disable something else to do this. Would I buy it again? Yes
