Review on ๐Ÿพ PlexiDor Bronze Performance Pet Doors for Dogs and Cats by Nailah Polanco

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The PlexiDor dog door does not offer any real security in combination with side rails.

Firstly, this product is at the forefront of mechanical (not electric) dog doors and for the money the quality, fit and finish should be better. The other shocking aspect of adding a slide rail, aside from the extra $90 on top of an already high price, doesn't really offer security. The skid plate was originally designed to be bolted into the frame, making the 1/16th sheet metal a little more resistant to penetration. With the addition of slide guides, all bets are off. A so-called "protective plate" encloses the inside of the rails, which is practical but does not offer any security. Since the rails have a large slope and the protective plate is so thin, any pressure (e.g. with a foot or a strong push with a hand) causes the plate to give way, break off the guide and the intruder is inside . The lower outer rail is cut longer. as the side rails are wide, so hang a little on each side. The thickness of the material of the outer bottom and top rain covers is different than the frame thickness, so they don't connect smoothly, which should be for such money. The skid plate has a pre-drilled hole that should line up with the dog door latch mechanism, but unfortunately again it doesn't, and the workmanship is poor making it almost impossible to lock/unlock the door once opened. The skid plate is inserted into the side rails. Love the fact that my dog learned to use the door within 15 minutes of installing it. Noiseless entry and exit as well as relatively good insulation against vermin and heat/cold are superior to a single door. I understand that spares are available should the need arise in the future, which is always a plus. If the company calls it a skid plate, then either the side rails need to have tighter tolerances on the sheet that comes with it, or the sheet metal thickness is increased to 1/8 inch, or both. $500 for a mechanical dog door (door and track combined) is a bit steep, especially if it doesn't provide the security it's supposed to. I also feel that attention to detail was not a priority in the production of this item, which is disappointing.
