I've been using this for just over 9 years. I walked from one area to another and found that the water tasted like old rusty pipes. Not wanting to buy water to drink from the store, I gave it a try and was very impressed with the quality of the water. I can tell the difference between kitchen water and bathroom water when I use a paper cup to take a sip of water and then realize I had to go to the kitchen to get the sip I need. I find that the cost of a filter is cheaper than buying bottled water and it's much more convenient to have it right at the tap. I know someone who uses a different brand of filter and it doesn't remove any bad taste either. I think you get about 100 gallons and as you get closer you get a flashing light alerting you that a new one is needed soon and when you need a new one the light stays red. I think if a gallon of water is 60 cents and you can get 100 gallons of water around 10pm I see a nice saving.
