Review on πŸ”© Screw Checkr: Enhanced Thread Gauge Verification Tool by Hector Mak

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fast, simple, reliable, inexpensive, well made

I have several tools for measuring different types of screws. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. I had to reorganize my bolts and screws by replacing many boxes, drawers, and crates with a simpler system. I thought it would be easy until I realized what a mess the contents of all those baskets and boxes were. Once I started adding a few metric screws, my ability to instantly know which one was the right one was a thing of the past. My new plan was to use very strong 3x6 inch clear plastic zippered bags. I bought 1000 from Revain. Each identical item was placed in a labeled bag. These bags are grouped by size and type into large labeled bags and then into clear plastic boxes. I will never spend hours trawling through 40,000 drawers to find what I want again. On 25% of the slots, the entire collection of all fasteners of each type is placed in 6 boxes. God I was surprised. The real problem was how long it took me to sort using my existing calibration tools: thread gauges, diameter gauges, length gauges, micrometers, taps and dies when I got really confused. So I bought a complete set of three gauges that Screw Check'r makes, one SAE and two metric. It really sped up the process. And it also made sense of the Metric Screwdome nonsense. SAE bolts are a very organized system. The metric is odd, especially the odd sizes, which should be close to duplicating common SAE sizes. 1/4 inch at 20 TPI is one of those SAE sizes that doesn't work well in metric units. Another area that confuses people is the SAE sizes #12-24, #12-28, and 1/4"-28. It's hard to find #12 sizes in hardware stores and hardware stores, but they are widely used in racks for electronic equipment.... Of course, the same goes for metric nuts and bolts with a pitch of 6mm x 1mm. They look the same, but no two should ever meet. The good news is, that what seemed like a project that should have taken several weeks of free time was reduced to two days of free time I am very pleased with this screw size tool check 'r New organization The system has many amazing benefits I find the right screw in seconds.I usually use several of the same screws for the same project and they usually all come from one box rather than multiple boxes.Bolts, nuts, washers, wood screws, sheet metal screws stay sa uber and neat. You don't walk between containers. If I use a package of screws, it goes into my mailbox. Spare parts order kit. Are screw inspection tools perfect? nope You can be better. They can also cost a lot more. However, as with most quality tools, if I take care of them, they should last me a lifetime. Pros: clearly marked, holes organized. Study them for a minute before you go crazy. The metric sucks. Get over it. Handling is good. The records are heavy, which I like. screw size fast. Convenient to store in a plastic bag. Cons: Marking is done by screen printing, not laser engraving. However, they have a very strong clear coat that appears hardened by the addition of silica. The way I used them didn't affect the end result in any way. It still looks new. A tiny piece of thread broke off at several holes and formed small burrs, which I cleaned up with a needle file. The thickness of the panel doesn't give much thread on some sizes, but it seems enough. I would not use one of these blades to clean damaged threads. I wouldn't tighten a screw just because I was sure it had to be a certain size either. I prefer to throw away the stubborn screw, clean it with a file, or screw it back in with a dice. Their biggest drawback is probably that they only work with bolts, not nuts, and I would never attempt to size a tap with a die. That. The best part is that if you have both the SAE and metric plates it is very fast and reliable. And i love it.

Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly
