Incredibly reliable headphones

There's a TLDR at the end for those of you who freaked out after clicking "More" and seeing a wall of text on the screen. Since I have a lot to say about these headphones, grab some popcorn and a soda and buckle up. As a forward, I've only tried them for a few hours, so I'll update this post if my mind changes. First things first, I'm by no means an experienced audiophile. Although I like many different aspects of the sound. I love the character of vinyl and have tried many different headphones over the years. By many I mean dozens as I have a very oddly shaped ear canal that prevents in-ear headphones from fitting properly. My essential everyday headphones are second generation Airpods as they are the only thing that fits my ear well. I also have a pair of Skullcandy Crushers for when I want a pair of car subwoofers on my ears, and a Jaybird X3 with Comply tips for skating and training. My test device is a Note 20 Ultra running Spotify at extreme quality settings (320 kbps as far as I know). FIT AND COMFORT This category is incredibly subjective as every ear is different. However, I will say that these are the first pair of in-ear headphones that fit my incredibly odd ears right out of the box! I did a shake test and they stay there pretty well. Comfort is 5/5. DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY The design and build quality of these headphones are top notch. The case feels incredibly sturdy and is about the same size as my Airpods case (the headphone case is a bit thicker). The buds themselves look great and the high gloss finish is nice to look at. Overall very well designed and built and therefore gets a 5/5. SOUND QUALITY. A little more redirection before I continue, that's another subjective category. I'm sensitive to "bright" headphones (ones where the high or high frequencies are too loud and sound painful in my ear) and avoid them as soon as I notice them. I will only comment on specific tracks and genres that I enjoy and actively listen to. I'm amazed at the quality of the sound coming from them! I've had Airpods Pro for a while and they sound similar but tuned for a little more bass. This is exactly what I was looking for. You also have several preset equalizer options to customize it to suit your taste or listening habits throughout the day. I hope there will be adjustable equalizer support in the future, allowing you to tweak the sound signature to your liking. I will break down each track and categorize it by genre. ELECTRONIC/HOUSE/OTHER SUB-GENRESTransformer by Moog: I picked this track to see if the cymbal accompaniment could be heard in the rest of the song. It's very clear, as is the rest of the track. The bass also sounds very nice, not overloaded, very tight and powerful. Clarity and excellent bass quality are repeated in this segment. - ROCK/METALI Love You to Death by Family Force 5: (this is the song I used for the shake test). Check the sound quality at high volume. I can confirm that these headphones sound just as good at high volumes. The cymbals don't bother my hearing, the guitars sound very clear and the SGA screams are great. Suck My Kiss by the Red Hot Chili Peppers: This is another track that gets played regularly. Bass Flea sounds perfect and clear as day again. The drums sound killer too. β€” Mac Miller's RAPJump: I picked this track to hear how clean and tight the bass is. The bass line on this one can sound very different depending on what headphones you're using. With them tight and assertive. Clarity was also strong in this song. Bless Yo Trap by Smokepurpp: This song is perfect for its incredibly heavy (but well-produced) bass. This track by the Crushers literally blows my mind, it's great. These buds do very well with a drum machine (perhaps a cymbal?) in the background. Most headphones usually force me to limit the volume because they sound very shrill. Not on this one. I can turn them over and not worry. The bass left a lot to be desired. Until I used the Bass Boost EQ, which, you guessed it, boosted the bass while still sounding punchy and tight. Well done. Big Fish by Vince Staples: I also tested the Bass Boost EQ on this one. I noticed that when I turned it on, the clarity of the mids dropped a bit. Without an equalizer it sounds crystal clear. Where I'm From by Digable Planets: The nice short bass line of this song can sound different depending on the headphones. Very precise and well controlled bass. CLASSICSRocket 69 by Todd Rhodes: It's a make it or break it moment to see if the headphones are too "bright" for me. Todd's vocals, along with an amazing sax solo, can crush my ears in some headphones. They handle this track GREAT. Everything seems very controlled and balanced. These headphones produce fantastic sound without overdoing any aspect of the sound profile. The bass is nice and subdued (you might be surprised what Crusher did with this track) and the highs aren't shrill or painful to my ears. The mids sound crisp and clear.-POP/NOT SURE THE GENRESit Next to Me by Foster the People: This track surprised me. I never noticed the bass guitar before. That's when I realized how much I miss the Airpods. Everything is so well defined and the stereo separation is perfect. Nothing more to say about it as everything about it sounds great. COUNTRY What Was I Thinkin' by Dierks Bentley: This track was another example of pure clarity. I could easily hear and distinguish each instrument and they were perfectly separated. It's a pleasure to listen to them. There was nothing clipped on this track either, the bass is maybe a bit too high but it's tight enough that I think it adds to the sound. All of these tracks sound great to my ears, easily reaching 5/5 MEDIA CONTROLS I don't like these headphones. One touch to pause/play a track works fine. If you try to double tap to skip/repeat, it will be an incredible hit or miss. I'm not sure if this can be solved with software or if my finger just isn't touching the touch surface the way I'd like. I usually end up tapping twice to skip a track and it registers as a single tap, which pauses my music. Then I double tap again to try to skip it and it just starts playing where it left off. Eventually he will skip the track for the third time. Headphone adjustment usually ends with a touch, and it also usually pauses the music just to try and fit it better to your ear. This also sometimes happens when you take the earbuds out of the case and put them in your ear for the first time. It's a major pain in the ass right now and it gets a 2/5 NOISE REDUCTION. Don't buy them for Bose or Airpod Pro level ANC. They're good at isolating noise when you're playing something, but pausing a track doesn't make you go "wow" like the Airpod Pros. The only tests I've done with the noise canceling so far are cleaning the house and listening while writing this review. I can't hear my keyboards when a track is playing, but when paused they're almost as crisp as when Ambient Sound is on. I will do more testing and report my results. Right now he gets 1/5. (UPDATE: I did some outdoor testing with them and they block out low frequencies quite well. The noise reduction algorithm takes a little time to catch up with the noise around you, but I'd say it blocks out somewhere around 50-60% of that noise around you. It also does an excellent job of removing wind noise at moderate speeds. Based on these new findings it gets a 3/5. Not great, but not terrible or useless.) AMBIENT MODE Glad to see someone finally implemented a feature with which you can turn on Ambient Mode automatically when you're talking to someone. This has worked great from the tests I've done so far. Also the ambient mode sounds almost as good as the Airpod Pro feature. They work well and therefore get a 5/5. CONCLUSION I am absolutely blown away by these headphones. So much so that I spent almost 2 hours writing this review. Almost everything they set out to do, they do very well. I hope future software updates will fix the issues I am currently having. I will replace my Airpods with these and recommend them to my friends. Well done Samsung, you have a real winner on your hands. It's all over now. For TLDR readers they sound fantastic, ANC and touch controls suck at the moment, build and fit are perfect and I'd have no hesitation in recommending them.
