I've been using this in a five gallon aquarium with a goldfish for about a year and a half. I had no problems with that. I like that it is easy to disassemble, you can clean every detail. The included filter sponges are washable and reusable, I still use the original sponges that came with the kit. The only sound it makes is running water, no loud vibrations or anything like that. I'm buying a replacement now because we had a power outage and the motor burned out. For $15, this one worked better than any $30 I bought at the pet store. So worth the money I may never buy a filter again! ******** 5 months later I wanted to come back and add to my review that I thoroughly cleaned my original filter and it is working great again. The engine didn't burn out, it was just filled with mud that settled to the bottom when the power went out. Now my second one is being kept as a spare, although I'm starting to think I'll never need it! If I could give this thing twenty stars I would.
