Cool White / Warm White LED Strips exceed expectations, but beware of installation pitfalls to avoid disappointment.

I just set up three of these sets in the kitchen. The light is bright and just what I was looking for. I paired them with four WW/CW Mi Light 2.4G RF Wireless LED Strip Controllers with 4-zone remote and one Milight Dual White WW/CW remote. Now I can turn specific areas of cabinets on and off or make my workspace brighter than the others. I can use bright white light to work and then warm light to eat. These LED lights exceed all expectations. The adhesive tape on the back is 3M quality - a nice surprise. There are several installation points that need to be considered. 1) They need to be soldered. None of the manufacturers have clips on the contacts for this. If you can't solder with a fine tip, go elsewhere. If you can (it's not that hard), they work great. The solder contacts are well tinned. 2) The solder contacts are spaced about 10 cm apart, the solderable contact points are conductive on both the back and front of the strip. I read in another review that the customer couldn't install these internal aluminum rails because they were shorted. I solved this by cutting 12mm squares from good quality tape and placing them on the rail on the pins (after soldering the leads). Problem solved.3) Some places that can be cut are not actually cut. Each cutout has three pairs of pins (a CW, a WW, and a +). Whenever a manufacturer spliced a strip, it overlapped two sets of solder points. If you cut the strip at this point (as I did until I got better), you will destroy the 10cm section of the strip as there are no solder dots left on it. Then splicing is required. Search for contact pairs first, then truncate. This can mean laying out the strip and planning the cuts. 4) Installation instructions are not included. Choose your transformers carefully (calculate your wattage and order 24 volt transformers in the appropriate size (note: not 12 volts). Would I buy them again. For the time being definitely YES.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
