I've used a Vom all my life but decided to try a 'Go, No Go' tester to make it easier when testing multiple outlets and in case I don't have a vom on hand. I bought this model because of the special voltage isolation that allows me to more accurately trace the hot side of the lines without stray fields giving me false readings.
