Review on πŸ”§ Enhance Your Workbench with the Lukcase Workbench Repair Drilling Collet by Chris Russell

Needs met but durability questionable

I gave this drill 3 stars because it fills a niche for those who don't want to invest in a more expensive drill. I didn't rate it higher because it's not well made and I'm afraid it won't stand up to more demanding uses. I was working on a project that required drilling 224 holes with a 2" Forstner bit. my log cabin. The holes should be perpendicular to the 3 1/2 inch diameter round rails and countersunk to the same depth. drill holes of the same depth. And it allowed me to use my Milwaukee 1/2" bit, which is a good quality bit and I knew it had enough power to drive a 2" Forstner bit to the required 1 1/2" depth Top of the range motor drills, but I felt that it would be difficult for me to maneuver those long rails in a drill and I was concerned that the cheaper models would not have the power needed to turn a Forstner bit The quality issue mentioned earlier occurred when I adjusted the height of the drill bit over the rail: the mechanism holding the drill bit slides over a chrome bar and locks into place by tightening two screws with a hex key, only moderate pressure i was afraid of using too much force when tightening these screws, the drill bit in the rack moved when i pressed the press handle, when i tried to tighten the screws again d The threads on both screws (see fig. tour). My solution was to replace those two screws with good quality stainless steel screws from a local hardware store. I strongly recommend you do this before using this drill press. The quality or lack of these screws leads me to believe that this drill is made from inferior materials and will not stand up to rigorous conditions such as drilling into thicker metal where significant downward force is required. But it suited my needs and was a relatively cheap way to get the control I needed to drill straight holes to a consistent depth.

Pros
