Review on Enhanced Vornado Element A2 Air + Steam Humidifier: Auto Refill Notification, Aromatherapy Ready, 2 Gallon Capacity, No Filters Needed - UPGRADED by Tylin Meyer

DO NOT BUY! Engineered to fail, impossible to clean. Generally garbage.

After 1 week of use and one cleaning cycle, 'A1' started flashing indicating that the powerhead containing the heating element was not fitted properly. Considering that the method of attaching the head is reliable, I suspected that something had gone wrong. I decided to reject any guarantees or return to Revain as my curiosity had already got the better of me. Removing the top ring around the steam grill revealed the screws, which I quickly removed, then the smooth white plastic exterior slid off. back and forth. I was really shocked by the sheer amount of scale that accumulated *everywhere* in this unit. See the first two pictures. The third picture is the heating element, bottom view. All of the vapor this device produces goes up and around the element. At some point, this will increase and the device will fail, since normal cleaning does not decalcify this part. Of course, that doesn't matter, because the rest of the structure (see other pictures) inside the device quickly leads to failure. Mind you, I owned this for a week. The real sin of it is how obvious it is to fail. I have another humidifier, the Vicks Vaporizer, which you can buy at the drug store for $15. The power cords are well sealed and fully insulated from the steam generated as water (especially hard water) is conductive and can cause a short circuit. With this design, Vornado decided that vape and electronics are not a big deal, some of the electronics in this device are exposed to vape. Nothing expendable, no AC transformer for the heating element, no AC/DC converter hastily crammed into the box on the side, no fan meant to move vapor up and out of the unit (not even a VORNADO designed fan ). BTW, JUST A COMPLETELY NORMAL CHEAP COMPUTER FAN) and most importantly no little sensor to detect if the powerhead is installed correctly. The sensor is (as far as I can tell) a magnetic hall effect sensor. When I looked, not only was he surrounded by lime, but he was sitting right in the water. Checking the sensor with my multimeter showed that the sensor was really dead, there was no response to waving strong magnets next to it. I tested with another sensor I got from the Arduino kit and it responded quickly once I was within an inch of the magnet. So yes, the sensor is dead. And none of this will work because Vornado thinks I'm too stupid to line up two arrows and rotate them. Then I whinnied loudly and threw everything back in the box and in the trash can. Vornado, you should be truly ashamed. Do not buy this product. Instead, buy a Vicks vaporizer for $15. Leave it descaled and you won't need anything else.
