Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Enhanced Fuel Pump Module Spanner Wrench by OEMTOOLS 25156 by Daniel Jackson

A very useful if not essential tool for in-tank fuel system maintenance.

This fall I bought a used car that needed a fuel system upgrade. It was very difficult to remove the cover that secures the fuel supply unit. An online video suggested carefully and gradually removing the retaining cap with a brass punch. Due to age, dirt and other factors, it didn't run as smoothly as the video. This instrument was bought and used to much greater effect. It applies force to 2 sides of the cover simultaneously, ensuring all torque is converted to motion and not lost to friction/drag. With this tool I was able to loosen the cap without damaging it. Putting the tool back in was a little tricky as the bar might be too wide for the hole you have to work in. I recommend playing around with centering a bit if this happens to you. It was also helpful to loosen the tank straps as I have lowered the tank for other uses and have found the extra freedom of movement to be very helpful. I don't think this particular tool offers the best value for money. For about half the price you can get a similar tool or a tool that will do the job just as well. Who knows if the manufacturer is the same now or not. Everything is outsourced to China, either to our advantage or to our disadvantage. Lower cost, less brand control, questionable quality. In the case of this particular tool, it was well made, the adjustment points didn't slip, and there was a sturdy, well-sized eyelet for a 3/8" drive. I recommend using a brake rod if you have one, but use it carefully. Slow sequential torque is better than jerky or "jagged" movements.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Not everything fits
