Good product with limited functionality and BAD support

I bought the GCS1734 after my old GCS124U didn't work with my newly added wireless mouse. I immediately had problems starting the GCS1734 via hotkeys. The Num/Caps/Scroll lights on my Belkin keyboard were blinking, the GCS1734 would not reset. This only works manually with a keyboard connected via the rear USB ports, but then there's no hotkey functionality. I contacted "support" where they basically gave me an apology. that "emulation" is not guaranteed for all keyboard brands. When asked which brands WERE SUPPORTED, they only replied that IOGear keyboards are supported. I don't think "Support" knows what "Emulation" means ;-) Suspecting I have a defective device, I asked for an exchange. "Support" said OK, send it back THEN we will send you a new one. Not wanting to be left dead in the water, I offered a credit card to cover them while they ship the new unit and I continued to work (manually) on the old one. "Support" IOGear refused. I was mad. But as an EE, I was confused by the strange behavior, especially after a new hardware connection sequence caused the GCS1734 to suddenly start working in hotkey mode. The flashing lights led me to suspect that the keyboard's "power-on reset" due to insufficient power supply was causing an overload in the GCS1734. So I ordered a USB power hub (from Revain of course ;-) and simply connected the keyboard to the hub. Voila! Works all the time. Note. Works best with a keyboard (via a hub) connected to the front USB port. allows working with hotkeys; but plug your mouse into the rear ports. all mouse functions are transferred to the PC. In general, after many disappointments, I am satisfied ;-)
