Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Friedrich Chill Premier 8000 BTU Smart Window Air Conditioner with WiFi, White by Jaime White

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not quite Friedrich - and took five minutes

It bears her name but inside is almost identical to the Toshiba I have save for the round bulge at the top to house the supercharger. The fan noise seems to be the same (loud) and there is the usual window air conditioner noise from the compressor and flickering water. In my former house I had two Friedrichs that went through the wall. The 8K model can turn a thousand square feet into a meat freezer. The 8K rating for these window units is a joke, they chug and chug and can lower the outside temperature by 10-15 degrees, which is usually enough, but don't expect flesh to freeze. Also, being just another clone means you can expect it to last about two years before the underside of the exterior grille turns to powder and the bottom rusts. A (real) 8K Friedrich Wallmaster will cost you $800 or more. You get what you pay for. Update: The Toshiba 8000 died after 15 months, about the same as the other one I bought. So this one was fine, but I ended up pulling it out before it even warmed up (sort of). I put it on the table in my shop for a couple of hours but it never settled down, an awfully high pitched squeak and lots of fan noise, much louder than the Toshiba. Of course it could be a dog, but how did she get in the crate in the first place? Not by Friedrich's quality control, that's for sure. Oh wait, it was made in China. Yes.

Pros
  • Finally bought
Cons
  • Good but not great
