Review on Hethya Automatic Brooding Controller for Incubation by Isaac Maze

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent and at an amazing price

Incubator for only $30? is it real Curiosity pursued me, so I bought one. And I'm impressed. This isn't the garbage I was afraid of. Setting: Nothing needs to be set up for chicken eggs. The settings are where they should be. Egg Turner: It's automatic and works great. It's nice that you can click a button to try it out. Capacity: It is designed to hold 16 chicken eggs. That's a bit optimistic and the photo is deceptive. You can maybe fit 16 eggs if they aren't too big and you don't have a hygrometer to take up space. Count is closer to 10 eggs than 16. Temperature control: excellent. It stays very close to the ideal temperature. Fan: Works well and the noise isn't too loud, although a more expensive unit would be quieter. Temperature Alert: It Works, But What Do You Need It For? It always keeps the right temperature. Egg Light: Works surprisingly well. Guide: Why don't the Chinese hire a native speaker and pay him a hundred dollars instead of using google translator? It's tedious to interpret the manual, but in time you'll get there. Luckily, you don't need to know anything special. Humidity Control: This is always an issue with incubators. If you don't spend a lot of money, your incubator will not automatically adjust the humidity. And in this device there is not even a hygrometer. Spend $5 and get one. You can stick it on the small window next to the motor of the turner. But you must be wondering how accurate a $5 hygrometer would be? Or you can buy a Bluetooth hygrometer for $15. Or you can get another hygrometer and let it roll around with the eggs, but you'll have to remove the lid from time to time to see it. . The manual doesn't say anything about humidity, just how it should be. Contrary to temperature, constant ideal humidity is not important. So this is good news. But most of the time you will want to approximate it, and that requires experimentation and lots of testing. As with most good incubators, everything is automated except for the humidity control. Humidity control could be simplified here with the addition of a hygrometer and a better variable ventilation system, but I think I can live with that. With a $5 hygrometer, I have to adjust the vent and add water several times a day to get the results I want. With a more expensive incubator, I still have to make adjustments throughout the day, but not as often. Insulation: the photos are a little deceptive. The lower part is covered with foam. It's adequate but not great. What I did was put the device back in the box and cut out a hole so I could see a small window. If it feels warm to the touch of a hand, the insulation should be better. Cardboard seems to work fine, but the top is still warm to the touch. I think I'll find some styrofoam to put on top. Why go through trouble? Because the better insulated you are, the less power you need, and this thing works 24/7 for 21 days. So is she hatching chicken eggs? I don't know from experience yet, but everything indicates that it should be. This is a great little incubator. All that's missing is a hygrometer and you can easily add one. You get a lot more than what you pay for with this incubator. It's not the best, but it's a deal.
