Bought four fridge/freezer thermometers to measure the kitchen and garage fridge/freezer. I bought two models Taylor 5925 and CDN FG80. From the reviews it was not clear to me why I should choose one thermometer over the other. The thermometers are almost identical in size and design. The CDN FG80 covers a slightly wider temperature range: 80°F high vs. 74°F for the Taylor, and -40°F vs. -28°F low. Unless you're measuring something colder or warmer than a traditional freezer or refrigerator, this is an advantage for a Taylor thermometer as the markings for the temperature range of interest are correspondingly larger. The Taylor range is from -34 °C to +30 °C. The CDN range is from -50 °C to +34 °C. Precision doesn't seem to matter. I compared all four devices at room temperature and in the refrigerator and all agreed within one degree. I ran a test in ice water on samples from each model. A mixture of ice and water that has reached equilibrium has a temperature of 0°C or 32°F. I placed the thermometers (one at a time) in a plastic ziplock bag and dipped the end of the bulb in ice water for 15 minutes. Both read 34 F. This may be due to an experimental error as the thermometer was not fully submerged and there was some air in the pouch. This was a huge improvement over my old dial thermometer, which I threw away after it fluctuated more than 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the same test. There is a narrow viewing angle where the red temperature line rises significantly and is easy to see. read. It looked about the same on both models. I loved the colorful temperature zones on the Taylor 5925N. Both have metal clasps on the back. Taylor also has suction cups that can be placed over the clips. The CDN clips fit snugly on the back of the thermometer. I had to bend them with pliers, in one case to hang them on a wire basket and in the other to make them stand upright on a flat surface. I don't see how you could ever mount a CDN without bending them or using something else to mount it. I thought of securing it with zip ties. The clamps on the Taylor are more useful. In one instance, it snapped to the front edge of a wire shelf. In another case I used suction cups. Taylor cost about a dollar less when I bought them. I would choose the Taylor 5925N as my freezer/fridge thermometer.
