First off, I'm fairly familiar with the 3.3 liter Vertigo on my Xterra. I know the internal ignition coil will rust and that the shaft bearing could be a problem. So I wanted to do a little preventative maintenance before installing the replacement manifold. I first found that the distributor cap was too tight, as was the rotor mounting bolt. The real problem was that the inner cover was screwed in so tightly that the head of one screw snapped off and another sheared off. I ended up having to drill out both screws, tap new threads and install new screws. When I removed the cam sensor, I found a ball of thermal paste on one side of the heatsink. Everything was removed and new paste was evenly applied to the radiator again. I removed the ignition coil pack, masked off the relevant areas and sealed the exposed metal parts of the frame. I assembled the unit and installed it with no problems. The O-ring must be lubricated before installation. I did not use the lid and rotor that came with the machine. I just installed and used a new Bosch cover and rotor. These are higher quality parts. this has been going on for a few days without any problems. Will post again if there are problems.
