I bought this product to charge the battery connected to my automatic gate opener as the solar panel connected lasts 20 years and wears out quickly. Here are the results of my testing: I first connected the charge controller to a 12V sealed lead-acid battery containing a 12.54V charge, then to the solar panel per the instructions that came with it, and it hooked up not switched on. I then tested the solar panel outside on a clear day near Flagstaff, Arizona (at 7,500 feet) at around 11:00 am, connected it to a multimeter and recorded a maximum voltage of 6.17V. This output voltage is not enough to charge a 12 volt battery that I bought to charge.
