My alternator died recently and in fact it started smoking a little and was afraid that the battery would also be damaged. I used it prior to this incident and it's also a great way to get an accurate voltage reading and check other parts of the car as well. I have an electrical engineering background but this tester also has a bright and clear full color LCD display that is very easy to navigate. There are many ways to not only read the device and diagnose electrical problems, but you can also input different frequencies and signals to identify and troubleshoot problem areas. It came in a nice case, holds everything perfectly and has enough space so there is no problem storing it. It's always kept in the car because although I have a sway meter it's definitely a car tester and troubleshooting system that I highly recommend 👍
