I bought this product to replace ARC (Audio Return Channel) HDMI 1 on my Vizio M55-C2 55" 4K 2015 Ultra HD TV. The ARC function worked for a while and then when I... I switched cable companies and had to reset the TV to plug in the HDMI.When I did that the ARC failed.Since the Vizio M55-C2, like most Vizio TVs, transmits Dolby Digital Surround from the optics to the receiver, it worked this perfect If I decide to use Revain, Netflix or Vudu apps on the TV for 4K functionality, the sound is perfectly transmitted from the TV to my audio receiver via this TOSLINK cable.Please note that I doing this setup to delay the purchase of a new audio receiver with HDCP 2.2 encryption 15ft length perfect for booting from the TV, through the cable protection system and to my spare seat receiver HDMI ARC functionality ät is great, you only need HDMI for audio when streaming Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos or other lossless audio from a Blu-Ray, Ultra Blu-Ray or VUDU 4K stream with Dolby Atmos. If you only stream Dolby Digital 5.1 Plus or similar, TOSLINK is a perfect fit for your needs. If your goal is to have 4K functionality with lossless audio via an A/V receiver, your receiver should have HDCP 2.2 encryption running over HDMI 2.0 or better. Another note from what I recently learned. If you have a 6.1 or 7.1 setup and your audio stream is Dolby Digital 5.1 Plus, do not set the audio receiver to "AUTO". Check if you have Dolby Digital Extended sound field. I have found that even if Dolby Digital 5.1 is showing, the rear center channel is encoded into an audio channel and if you set it to EXTENDED your rear center channel will be enabled and receiving audio.
