Bought for my 87 year old mother who is in a nursing home. She has hearing problems, so it helps if she flashes a red light when she calls. The tone of the call is actually quieter than expected, even on the "hello" side, but my mom said the tone (or pitch) of the call is different so she can hear it better. The best part is the actual speaker inside the phone. My mom can now hear what people are saying without us yelling or repeating what we are saying, and without using the red boost button. With this activated my mother said the voices are too high pitched so she doesn't need that boost at all. We hear her perfectly and best of all she now hears us without distortion and without yelling into the phone. My mom loves this phone and doesn't usually like anything. The nursing home staff is very impressed. I used an engraving tool to write her name on the base and handset so she wouldn't walk away. It simply plugs into your outlet and has a very long 15 inch cord. She can sit in a wheelchair and cross the room without looking up from her phone.
