From time to time my car decides to turn on the check engine light. Instead of stopping at the local auto parts store or mechanic to read the codes, I can just pull this out and scan the car to see what the code is. Often the gas cap doesn't close properly, so it's easy to fix and annoying to run around these spots to try to figure out what it is. I can do most car repairs myself so having a code reader to tell me what my car is saying wrong is very handy! I also like the ability to clear codes after I've fixed an issue to make sure I've actually fixed it.
