Much clearer and more durable than plastic Miller loupes

I don't write reviews unless there is something horrible in the product. However, this product helped me so much with TIG welding that I had to write a review about it. I have an older (2017) Miller Digital Infinity helmet (just before they released the ClearView screen) with the standard Rogue lens holder. I have used 2.5mm plastic Miller lenses for TIG welding thin plate and they scratched a little even with careful use. very soft plastic lenses, just like Millers soft plastic front and inner lens caps that need to be replaced after only a few days of welding. I bought these 3 diopter glass loupes from Best Welds. First, they don't automatically fit in the Miller lens holder. The length and width are ok, but the thickness is a bit big. Miller's lenses are approximately 0.147 inches (3.75mm) thick depending on which edge you are measuring from. The frame that holds the lens is made of soft black plastic from Best Welds and is approximately 0.20 inches (5.08mm) thick depending on which end the measurements are taken from. out of stock One reviewer said that the Best Welds lens barrel external dimensions are too large for the Miller lens holder, but I think he was wrong as the Best Welds lens barrel is 4.275 inches (108.59mm) long. Inside Dimension Miller lens holder frame size is 4.28 inch (108.75mm) so Best Welds lens fits in this size. To correct for the extra thickness of the Best Welds frame, I first simply glued the lens to the inside of the helmet. . It worked all day. Then the lens fell off during welding. Then I simply sanded Best Welds' over-thick black plastic frame on a belt sander. Only the edge that the Miller lens holder comes in contact with, be careful not to scratch the glass lens. Perfect. Nearly. I was able to grind the outer edges (where the Miller lens mount makes contact with the lens) to a thickness of 0.154" (3.93mm). That helped. It slides in and out of the lens holder quite easily now. slightly thicker, but works well enough and won't damage the Miller lens holder. The only downsides to these Best Weld glass lenses (45.6g) are that they are more than twice the weight of Miller plastic lenses (18.3g) and the abysmal ratcheting system of the miller helmet which is already stressed by the helmet itself can be a bit more painful due to the extra weight of the glass lenses for monitoring miller's helmet with much better view of the weld pool i think i could use a new lincoln viking 3350 helmet buy and let the miller work outdoors in bright light where it excels these lenses are excellent when easy to mod much better than the plastic miller lenses i have used when If you're a welder worthy of your welds, you should be able to figure out how to make these lenses work for you.
