Really amazing scanner! The opinion of an IT administrator who thinks all scanners are complete garbage.

I can't say enough good things about this scanner, so let's get to the details: 1. This is a workhorse. We digitize our entire paper archive of about 500 sheets a day and this scanner hasn't lagged behind.2. This is a well thought out device. When you scan as much as we do, small annoyances become big problems. Whoever designed this thing thought through all of these little annoyances and eliminated most of them. I love how the device recovers from jams and understands which pages to keep and which to discard. I like how the one-touch scan button understands when to start scanning and when to resume scanning. That means I don't have to click on the PC software to restore. The machine performs Auto Alignment, Auto Contrast, Auto 2-sided, Auto 1-sided, and Auto Align. It's hard to screw up a scan. The scan engine even knows how to look for ink/toner bleed from one side of the page to the other and contrast it. Wow! 3. Cleaning and maintenance is very easy. After 500 pages, some residue remains in the scanner. The eject button and flip-top lid are designed well enough to facilitate gently blowing out particles and thoroughly cleaning the top and bottom readheads. No special tools are required. It's hard to go wrong here.4. Scanning to searchable PDF works incredibly well. I am very impressed. The OCR engine does a great job of scanning text and making it searchable in PDF. This is the search function we need. Pro tip: If you're using Windows and want to use Windows Search to search text in PDFs, you need to download and install the Adobe PDF iFilter application on every computer you want to search for PDF files on, not just your server or workstation. where are the pdf files located The iFilter installation *should* enable the Windows search options to search the entire PDF, not just the file properties. However, there are a few annoyances: 4. Software installation is cumbersome and requires many updates. Whoever designed the installer/updater wasn't nearly as sophisticated as whoever designed the hardware. Downloading, installing and updating the software takes about 30 minutes. In fact, there is no excuse for that. Just package the updates into the latest installer, making it easy for those of us who'd rather buy later than sooner. The actual application software is also clunky. The ONE thing this scanner should do right is scan to searchable PDF. To do this I had to disable all "hot keys" functions and change the application to scan to Application: Save to Folder. I select the folder and now I don't do any software at all. I just put the documents in the scanner, press the blue button and go.6. Wi-Fi setup is clunky and difficult due to poor installer. Wi-Fi should be one of the great features of this device, but it's a pain to set up due to the stupid software. I also had trouble connecting this device to my UniFi WiFi mesh network. Sometimes UniFi changes the channel of a certain SSID and this disables the scanner's WiFi. Then I have to go into the software and set up Wi-Fi again. Repeat this every time I make configuration changes or reboot UniFi APs. Some kind of crap. All in all, this crazy little box saved us so much time and nerves. The best part? I was demoing it before a scanning/archiving company tried to offer us $10,000 for a scan and their demo system performed a lot worse than this little scanner. They went to shame. I love doing it with crappy companies :)
