Update: Took it on a night dive to test it. That's about what I expected from the brightness. It was a dive in a lake and limited visibility. The blackout option is necessary when there is a lot of material floating in the water. The magnetic switch worked perfectly. This size is fine. I'm too big for a backup in my pocket, but we made it. This was used as a backup light for one of my students. I only took it out once during the dive to check. I will use it as a main light on another dive and get a better rating. I am a diving instructor and have been diving for over 30 years. My first impressions of this flashlight are pretty good. The thing is, it's good. It will hold the light without swaying and you can put anything in it for that light. You can also add a few other items, but not many. The light makes a well-made impression. It's heavy and the handling looks good. It comes with a spare set of three O-rings. I RECOMMEND CLEANING AND LUBRICating THE O-RINGS OF ALL NEW LIGHTS. The flashlight has a wrist mount with a D-ring that allows you to attach the flashlight and prevent it from being lost. The cable is quite long. This allows you to thread the strap through the D-ring and thread the light through to attach. The lanyard attachment point on my flashlight was on one side. This allowed me to easily pull the knot out and permanently change the length if I wanted to. I can also loop the cord and make an anchor point and still use the wrist option. I don't have a light intensity meter. It's bright enough to use as a main or backup light for night dives, or as a secondary light for day dives to add color. This would be a good backup light for more advanced diving. It has two intensities. This is good when you don't need that much glitter, for example when there is a lot of junk lying around. I like the magnetic switch option as it eliminates another potential leak point. Operation is easy. Press the button and it will glow with high intensity, next press will dim and third press will turn off. It is possible to accidentally turn on the light when carried in a pocket. There is a slight indentation on the underside of the lantern housing that needs to be pushed in about 1/4" (6mm) to turn on the light, so in most cases this will probably be fine. The switch can be operated with one hand, but this may require you to reposition the lamp in your hand. The charger is working properly. You have to make sure that the positive pole is well connected. There is a small contact point on the charger that should make contact with the small positive side of the button on the battery. If the connection is poor, the indicator stays green or flashes red/green in the wrong format. Just make sure there is a solid red light at the start of the charge cycle. It looks like there is no problem with the negative ending. You have to pull the negative end down to insert the battery. It's spring loaded. Batteries and chargers are available on the market at a reasonable price. Be sure to choose good quality batteries. , This light has a large current at high power r. There was no silicone in the lamp. You must be on hand to lightly lubricate the o-rings. I clean and lubricate the o-rings every time I disassemble the light. This will take a few minutes but will reduce the chance of a leak. The color temperature specification for the CREE XM-L2 U4 is 6500 to 7000. It is also rated at 1268-1344 lumens at 3A; 25 degrees Celsius. Since the battery is 3.7V, it is quite possible that the flashlight will nominally produce 1000 lumens.
