Review on πŸ”« Powder Coated 12 Gauge Simpson Strong FPBS44 by Chris Burns

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good solution for my application

I tried it on fence posts. Bought a set of 4 to test them then bought 4 more to finish. I didn't want to embed the posts in concrete. It's annoying and there's no going back if you make a mistake. (although bolting to concrete is possible) I didn't want to rely solely on pressure treated lumber to hold it in the ground. This is a decent design, great thickness. I used them in clay soil. drenched by heavy winter rain. I dug a 12-18 pilot hole and set a mandrel. and drove her into the fence post. Used a 2.5 mini slide. 2 of my 8 stakes got stuck in tree roots or rocks and I had to get a little creative to get them deep enough. After building the fence I was able to adjust to the plumb. and in 2 cases the post could be driven lower or raised. to work with the needs of the fence. I used rocks as shims and covered them with gravel and sand for seating, weighing and leveling. After a few years, the clay soil settles well and forms a very strong set. I think they would be great for rocky ground. and I didn't expect the spike to withstand any type of ram drive. For signs and mailboxes. It would be hard to beat this product.
