Beware Texans! for industrial devices

I didn't like this product at all, but not because of the design. Spike is hard work. I live in Austin, Texas and the bedrock beneath my soil was stunning. We drove into a spike and she stopped 12 inches from the end. The move took over an hour, 3 people worked on it. The spike went into the rock and we had to dig it out and use jack stands to get it out. Just post this so other Texans or those with rock problems will think twice before ordering online. I wish I had bought one from Home Depot…

Pros
  • Can be used on 2 cleats
Cons
  • thin

Good solution for my application

I tried it on fence posts. Bought a set of 4 to test them then bought 4 more to finish. I didn't want to embed the posts in concrete. It's annoying and there's no going back if you make a mistake. (although bolting to concrete is possible) I didn't want to rely solely on pressure treated lumber to hold it in the ground. This is a decent design, great thickness. I used them in clay soil. drenched by heavy winter rain. I dug a 12-18 pilot hole and set a mandrel. and drove her into the fence post.

Pros
  • Black powder paint
Cons
  • Something different

Luckily this was pretty easy

I bought 4 to make a low fence around the patio. I had to hammer them in before the new concrete slab was poured (which I'm still waiting for) but luckily everything seemed to go fairly easily. My ground is rocky so I started by hammering in a piece of metal pipe. where the stake would go just to make sure I didn't hit any big rocks along the way. Of the 4, two hit with no problems. One of them started going in at a slight angle, which could be because something in the ground was distracting…

Pros
  • Makes it easy to install 4x4 wooden stakes without digging holes or pouring concrete
Cons
  • unreliable
