Review on 🔒 K&N Premium Oil Filter for HYUNDAI/KIA/SUBARU/HONDA: Engine Protection & Compatibility (HP-1004) by Dustin Lannan

I've been using KN on my WRX 2017 since I bought the car and it has exceeded my expectations for an oil filter. I have to say I was unpleasantly surprised when I bought it again for 5,000 change and got a different style. BTW, just to be safe, I switched to PBL14461 PurolatorBOSS oil filter for the WRX. I've added photos of the old KN filter versus the new one. To be honest I can't say if this style change is a good or bad thing, but some of you might want to see the differences. Note. I called KN and the tech confirmed that the design and style will change depending on where you get the filter. The old filter comes from Mexico and the new one from the USA (or so they say). First, the box from the US is shabby as hell, no plastic packaging like in old Mexico. Also weight. American light, very light compared to mexican. I've drained as much old oil from the filter as I can, and it's still significantly heavier than the American one. I'm not sure if heavier is better, but that's what I noticed. As you can see from the photos, the old large 8 hole design has been replaced with a small 13 hole design. Can't tell if this makes a difference in performance, but the interior still has a spiral center tube on both. The biggest change is the upholstery; The new filter has a built-in gasket (which looks and feels weird), while the old one has a removable gasket. This is what put me off the most, as the new gasket's surface is rougher than the old Mexican's, and compared to the photos, even the metal around the threads isn't as smooth or quality as the Mexican style. Filter. I hope this helps anyone wondering why sudden oil filter changes happen. I will stop using KN just to feel better.
