There is a twisted part that needs to allow rotation to open the air intake (so no suction) - no idea why. In any case, upon inspection I would expect that you should be able to rotate and open or rotate and close the holes to allow for vacuum suction, but the "twisted part" will not rotate and close completely. Since the serpentine part cannot be rotated to fully cover the holes (only half) vacuuming is little (if at all) effective. I attached it with a piece of electrical tape. Stupid bug, easy to fix. I'm not upset because it's easy to fix. Warning, the tiny crevice tool and brushes cannot withstand high friction/pressure, so care must be taken when using them. They pop out easily - they don't break, they just pop out/separate. These are very small tools and not intended as a cleaning brush. :) It's fine, but remember to be careful when using it. :) To be honest I'm thrilled with this set - it works great with my Rocket - the crevice tool is great for getting down between the seat/console (French country) and those pesky trails the seat travels . :) The brushes are great for small areas like speakers, door pockets, cup holders, etc. This set is not intended for use on carpets/floors (too small) - they are incredibly good for those little hard-to-reach spots and fins on the vent holes . I am happy with my purchase!
