We've rented them from local shops so many times that my wife and I finally decided to buy our own. The market for "professional" home carpet cleaners appears to be dominated by the Rug Doctor and Bissell Big Green. I read so many reviews and watched so many videos comparing these two machines that I had a very hard time deciding. Everyone swears that one of them is vastly superior to the other, but it's never the same winner. In the end, two things brought me to the Rug Doctor. The first was that since I've used them so many times, I knew what to expect and how to use them to properly clean our carpets (which is very important to me). This is a pre-treatment of the carpet and only water with a small amount of white vinegar is used in the machine). Another reason was that I didn't see the mentions in many places, but that seemed like a reasonable detail. Most carpet cleaners have a forward rotating brush, while the Rug Doctor is one of the few machines where the brush moves from side to side. -page instead. It was explained to me that these rotating brushes tend to pull a lot of fibers out of the carpet. The Rug Doctor (probably!) minimizes this with his blending brush. This was important to me as I don't want to shorten the life of my carpet with every cleaning. And while I don't necessarily have "proof" for that claim, I do know that I've seen fibers in the effluent while cleaning with a borrowed spin brush machine. I don't see that with the Rug Doctor, just dirt.
