Originally when I had the idea of turning it into a single (and I needed a big rear cassette to give me some more bass) I thought I needed a long cage derailleur, but I realized that the problem wasn't with chain winding, but with releasing the kick wheel over the larger sprocket. I used this to get my short cell 105 to work with 11-36 coming from 12-30. The front double was also converted to a single. It was only a bike ride but installation was pretty easy - I reversed screw B and screwed everything back on. I just needed to boost the treble a little, and everything was fine with the switch. Because of the length, it's not as sharp as it was before the RoadLink, but it's acceptable. I'm experiencing sloppier/skipped shifting in the lower gears, but I think I can make some adjustments to fix this. So far, so good! I hope the extra length doesn't make my bike's in-frame suspension bend or break more easily. I'll update this if I can't get the gears working as well as I'd like - I'm very picky about gear changes and there's nothing worse than taking off from a busy intersection or other potentially dangerous place, and you've got one sudden and unexpected gear changes as you kick for your life. UPDATE after a little less than a year of use: Shortly after I wrote the first part, I made some adjustments and the transition went well. Seems to be 50/50 when it gets into the "10th" gear (smallest) as I had to do some tweaking to keep the chain from falling off the sprocket and getting caught between the smallest gear. and frame. So, yes, you will lose the subtlety inherent in the 105 group, but there is nothing to worry about. Working with a sprocket in general has been a huge improvement and I'm sure if consumers weren't so driven by the wrong "bigger the better" information more bikes would have appeared that way from the start. EDIT again: I now have 11-42 behind instead. Seems to work fine, although WT claims not to be supported. FYI the SunRace cassette comes with a RoadLink bootleg! You might just save $20. Although it doesn't have any fancy stuff on it, it looks of pretty decent quality.
