Basically got what I expected, other than one thing I consider minor (I was hoping for the texture to be more matte, but the outside is smooth and shiny instead).Since I'll be using it as a WINE tumbler, I'm not testing it for heat or cold retention like I might a water bottle or a soup thermos. Most manufacturers way-overstate how long something will stay cold or warm in the vessels they're selling, and there are so many factors involved that it's not easy to test without error being involved. But by the look, feel & thickness of this tumbler, it seems like it might keep your drink warm or cool for an hour TOPS (with the lid on and just sitting there), ie. NOT the six to nine-plus hours that this page's product information claims. However, 1 hour is MORE than enough time for a typical person to finish a glass of Chardonnay or a hot chocolate, and this wouldn't be the type of container you'd fill with something cold and throw in a backpack to go hiking with, so its hot/cold retention is basically meaningless. It's double-walled, so it will retain hot/cold better than will a normal glass or cup: enough said!Drinking with the lid on was not awkward on my lips (drooling liquids were not a problem). I did test the lid for being leak-proof; I'd expected it to be only SPILL-proof, but this item did not leak at all when left full of water and upside down with the lid on. No leaking was detected around the perimeter (where the seal is made with the stainless steel) NOR through the sliding plastic portion of the lid (in the closed position, of course). When SHAKING the cup upside down, there WAS a little leakage through the sliding plastic portion of the lid, but shaking your cup in this manner is not something anyone would realistically do. Right-side-up SWIRLING is a more realistic scenario, and it did not leak for that. Even more realistically, if your cup tipped over on the table and it sat there overnight on its side with the lid closed, I'm very confident the cup would be as full in the morning as it was when it originally tipped over. So the lid deserves the highest praise.Lastly, I only drank wine out of this cup (I used water for my lid testing) before writing this review. According to much of the information online about stainless steel and liquids, it's probably not a good idea to store or to LEAVE your wine in this cup, but this goes for any basic food-grade stainless steel cup, bottle, or even small flask (the latter is the worst, since the inside is so much harder to clean). I detected a slightly different taste of my wine in the stainless steel, but that could have been purely psychological. Regardless, at HOME I'll continue to drink wine out of a basic wine glass, but this lightweight and less fragile (than glass) tumbler will be a great addition to my camper van.
