These punctures might be good for beginners, but not that good. They are difficult to pierce through thin (3 ounce) leather, make rough, messy looking holes, and are difficult to pull out of the leather once it has been pierced since the inside of the teeth is not polished. I will get better quality from another company. Edit update - I made the star smaller and don't think it would be good anymore even for a beginner. The seams look terrible because the teeth are not evenly spaced. I lined up 2 prongs on the tape measure to show the problem. Terrible quality control
